30 Days of Running. DAY 30

Drums please!

When you start something you better finish. Well guess what? I did it! 30 days of running has come to an end. Woo hoo! Never ever really doubted the possibilities to be honest. Quite the feat though I gotta say. 30 days of running straight really does something to you. When I started I didn't exactly think of this as a challenge to be honest. I figured 30 days no problem. Not that I had issues with completion but the last week of the challenge was tough. I really had to push myself. Not to run exactly but to run at a level I was proud of. Maybe I was pushing myself a little too hard with my new found pace or maybe I was just pushing my self to succeed. In the end the satisfaction of completing a goal you set for yourself wins over anything. I repeat, I did it. I feel stronger now. Not exactly as per running but in a mental feel. I completed something I set my mind to and to my own satisfactory. In completing my goal I also hit a running marker. My final run of 30 day challenge helped me to achieve 700 kilometres of running as per nike plus. True be told I've ran over 700 k since I started running some one year plus, the 700 k is just what I've registered with nike plus and their website. Whoa is me! I'm impressed regardless of a 30 challenge or the 700 k marker. What do I have to say after all of this? Don't give up. Believe in yourself. You shall overcome. Here's the final run stats

Distance: 8.69k
Time: 38:54
Pace: 4:28/k

Song of the run: We made it, Ghostface Killah

All y'all, all y'all crumbs
We made it

30 Days of Running. DAY 29

One run away from the finale.

Truly proud I made it this far. Can't believe there's only one run to go. Its all flew by so fast. 30 days of running has pretty much come and gone. Today's run was quick as I had plans and have really been feeling each run as of late. The weather wasn't exactly co-operating either. Another run in the rain. Its funny the looks you get well out running in the rain. Today was short and sweet. Maybe tomorrow I'll go out with a bang. See you then

Distance:4.01k
Time: 17:52
Pace: 4:26/k

Song of the run: Quiet storm, Mobb Deep

We've been adored, for keepin it raw, nuttin less or more
I score everytime for sure

30 Days of Running. DAY 28

Day twenty-eight and in two days I'll put this challenge to bed. I've noticed as of late my pace is a little slower then usual but maybe its the daily runs catching up with me. No biggie but its something that has caught my eye as this challenge runs its course. Not that I'm complaining but a few seconds is a few seconds. I've always been in the ideal of shaving time and not adding time. Go fig right?

30 Days of Running. DAY 27

Sunday brings run 27, one step closer!! Exciting to think this challenge is three runs away from being complete. Woo hoo!! Never doubted that I would finish I'm just shocked and awed at how fast this  challenge has seemed to fly by. Today's run had to be for distance. Lately I've been overdoing it with the quick and dirty so I had to get a long run in. Truth be told I just don't think I'd have had it in the tank to finish a distance run over the last few days. Hopefully being back in the saddle I can throw down a distance run tomorrow as well. Hmmm....

Distance: 10.02 k
Time: 46:27
Pace: 4:37/k

Song of the run: I will survive, Cake

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
I kept thinkin' I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights just thinking how you’ve done me wrong
And I grew strong, I learned how to get along

30 Days of Running. DAY 26

Day 26 and SO not feeling it. Last night was a little too much for me. No matter what I did the effects of last night seemed to hang on. My body was begging me not to run. There was no way I could even think of a distance run on a day like today. Good times last night with an old friend but boy am I feeling it today. I'm coming to the slow realization that I'm not the rockstar I used to me. Some new flash there. Anyway, I seemed to hang in there for the entire run and soon enough the out and back was over with. I knew this wasn't going to be my best run, quite possiblely my worst but at least it was over. Little disappointed but a run is a run. Can't be at your best all the time.

Distance:3.52 k
Time:17:03
Pace: 4:49/k

30 Days of Running. DAY 25

Better late then never.

So I went out for a quick run last night before a friend came to town. A short and fast 3k through the surrounding neighbourhood while waiting for his bus to arrive. Only problem with when friends come to town is that the beers get flowing and before you know your forgetting to post you running blog for day 25. Not to worry though through the miracles of modern technology it still shows up as Friday's run. But still just another quick and dirty.

Distance: 3.24 k
Time:14:00
Pace:4:19/k

30 Days of Running. DAY 24

The end is near!

Moving right along! Day 24 and if my math is correct that means only 6 runs left. Let the countdown begin!

Tonights run was filled with rain and wind forcing it to be a short run when what I was really planning a distance run. My out and back along the ocean path turned out to not be my best idea with the current weather. Can you say brain freeze? Silly me chose not to wear a touque. Still with the weather trying to hold me back I was still able to keep a good pace. Hopefully for run 25 the weather will clear and I can get in a distance run.

Distance: 4:52k
Time:19:53
Pace:4:23/k

Sound of the run: empty, Metric

There was no way out, the only way out was to give in

30 Days of Running. DAY 23

Day 23 and the sun is shining. Well, shining by the time I set off for my run. Felt like I was in a rush today as I was trying to fit in a quick run before the Red Wings game. Why run later? Quick and dirty as I like to call it. I'll never complain with that. Long or short I can never get enough of hearing my feet pounding the pavement. I'm addicted! Day 23 and loving it!

Distance: 3.37k
Time:14:04
Pace: 4:08/k

No song of the run today as my iPod died less than 5 minutes from home. :(

30 Days of Running. DAY 22

Rain, rain, go away!

Yeah that never worked. Another night of running in the pouring rain. I was dragging today. Not just as per running but the entire day. In general it was simply put a bad day. Nothing  really bad happened but it was def one of those days where you felt like you just should have stayed in bed.

I think my run reflected this. I seemed to lack the charge that I have had as of late. Maybe it was the rain? Maybe it was just me? Not that my pace was bad but it wasn't where I wanted it to be. Oh well, you can't win them all. 8 more runs.

Distance:4.04k
Time:18:30
Pace:4:35/k

Song of the run: Strip My Mind, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Arthur J. did, indicate
The boulevard will never be
So full of life and love again - hey
(Aw, say goodbye to your boots, man)

Hot as Hades, early eighties
Sing another song
Make me feel like I'm in love again - hey
(You gotta lose to win)

30 Days of Running. DAY 21

Ugh, cramp! Go fig, everything good has to come to an end. 20 straight runs and finally an issue. You won't see me complaining. It probably wasn't the best idea to snack so close to run time. What can I say? I was hungry. I know, I know, excuses, excuses. Not that I'm really making any but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Still a good run overall. The cramp just hindered my pace that's all. Oh well, next time.

Distance:4.01/k
Time:18:38
Pace:4:38/k (boo!)

Song of the run: Moment of truth, Gangstarr

They say it's lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch motherfuckers around you
Nobody's invincible, no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth

30 Days of Running. DAY 20

Well, well, well look who made it to day 20. Not that I ever doubted myself but c'mon. You can't tell me that there's a little bit of crazy in a person that wants to run for 30 days straight. Only 10 days to go!!!  Whoooooooo! Not gonna lie here I'm excited. Its been fun doing the challenge but I can't wait to get back to my regular schedule for running. Soon enough. :)

Distance: 5.01/k
Time: 21:28
Pace: 4:16/k

Sound of the run: Chase Money for Love, Trouble Andrew

Everybody starin' 'cause you're in the place now
'Cause you're lush with the crush with the cash
I see it in your eyes walkin' the strip, you know we watchin'
I won't pay for them lips if that's what gets you talkin'

'Cause you chase money for love
You chase money for love

30 Days of Running. DAY 19

Brrrrrr, its cold out there! Day two of no rain but winter is def on its way. Today I figured why not do a distance run as opposed to the out and backs I've been running mostly as of late. With that thought in mind I figured I'd test my 10k time. I wanted to best my 10k time which to be honest I couldn't even remember what it was. Back when I first started running and participated in the TC 10k I think my time was 51:05 so lets go with that. Take into account this was WAY before I turned into the running machine that I am today. Yeah, I've got a big head! lolz. I've come a long way since my days of 6 and a half minute k's and I'm damn proud to say so. Today's run was great as it was my first distance run in a bit and my pace was solid the entire 10k. Check today's run results and see what you think. I better leave in the mean time so I can still get my fat head out the door to take the Ralph out.

Distance:10:02/k
Time:43:58
Pace:4:23/k

Song of the run: Creatures (For a While), 311

My name is volatile
I've been this way a long while
I'd surely like to rest
But the energy gets the best of me
It's been a wild ride
I wouldn't change a minute
I can't slow down inside
Guess that's why I live it

30 Days of Running. DAY 18

So no rain for todays run. Yes! After a few days of running in the rain I was happy to get in a rain free run. Getting home and dripping with sweat seems so much better than being completely drenched from head to toe. Day 18th and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Only 12 runs left! Crazy to think this challenge will be over soon. Haven't even really thought of how my running has improved since I started. I'll write more on my reflections sooner or later. The last few days though I've really had a chance to see how running has changed me. Even with the end in site I see the start of new beginnings.

Distance:5.04/k
Time:21:51
Pace: 4:20

Song of the run: Empire of the Sun, Walking on a dream

We are always running
For the thrill of it, thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill
Searching for the thrill of it

30 Days of Running. DAY 17

Another day of running, another day of rain. I guess its better than the snow that up island and Vancouver is getting. The run today was not just in the rain but in the pouring rain. It was cold. Gone now are the days of running in shorts. I dug out my trackies for just the second time to run today. Funny how I thought summer running would lat forever. Not long now and I'll be sporting a jacket well running. No matter what the weather I'll run though. One thing this challenge has given me is drive. The drive to see something to the end. Something I'm starting to realize I never had before. Soon will be the end of this challenge but then what? More running? More challenges? How can I stop when I've come this far? All these burning questions but hey at least I've got answers.

Distance:3:39/k
Time:14:47
Pace:4:21/k

No sound of the run today it was too cold to pay attention, sorry

30 Days of Running. DAY 16

What a blustery day day 16 turned out to be. Not like a little wind and rain would hold me back though. Actually a whole lot of rain but seriously! Won't stop, can't stop, even with the crazy weather. Come to think about it we are approaching that time of year so go fig? With the weather the way it was I seemed to have an ache in my bones, maybe I was just being lazy. I really needed to drag myself off the couch for the tonights run. I can honestly say this is the first day this has happened. Blah, blah, blah, here is tonights run results.

Distance:4.52/k
Time:20:02
Pace:4.25/k

Song of the run: Along the watchtower, Bob Dylan
There must be some kinda way outta here....

30 Days of Running. DAY 15

Day 15, Day 15!!!!!

Half way there and still feeling great. Go fig? How time flies when your having fun. I guess its all down hill from here. Come it think of it may I'll find more hills to run. You really feel the burn off a run with a few hills. I always manage to base my runs around a few. I just can't run a flat boring run.

Distance:4.57/k
Time:19.31
Pace:4:16/k

Another day of picking up the pace. :)

Song of the run: Work by Gangstarr feat Big L
I put in work and watch my status escalate...

30 Days of Running. DAY 14

Day 14, wow! 14 straight days of running!!! I guess then it was fitting to put up my best per kilometer time yet. Short and sweet. I don't think I even made it to 15mins. Maybe I just had a case of the Mondays. With little sleep last night thanks to a pacing Ralph maybe I just needed a nap. Short but fun and today was all about stepping up the pace. I'm happy with 4:30/k but I'm even happier with today's pace. Here's to keeping it up. Peep the dets. :)

Distance: 3.10/k
Time:13mins 12 secs
Pace: 4:15/k

Song of the run: Deadly Groundz, Project Wyze
You hide I'm a find ya, runnin' behind ya...

30 Days of Running. DAY 13

Lucky run number 13 on a blustery fall day. Having stuffed myself with the Triple D from Floyd's Diner running was put off until after football. I was in need of some serious couch time! Not even the post brunch walk helped work that bad boy off. If your ever in the CRD I highly suggest you try it. Regardless though of how full I was no super sandwich was going to hold me back for long. Soon after seeing wifey off to yoga I was out the door myself. Fall running is great. Basically you can run at whatever time you want since your not waiting for the summer cool down. Regardless of the season I've always been a fan of before dinner running. What's your favorite time to run?

Distance:7.53/k
Time: 33mins, 45secs
Pace:4:29/k

Song of the run: Apply some pressure, Maximo Park
I like to wait to see how things turn out, when you apply some pressure...

30 Days of Running. DAY 12

Rain makes me not want to run. Then again a challenge is a challenge and no matter the weather I knew what I had to do. What made things better was that for the first time in a long time I had someone else to run with. With the rain not letting up we set out. My partner in crime advised he had not run in some time but hearing of my 30 day challenge was thrilled to join me rain or shine. And keep up he did! Not once did I turn to check where he was for if he wasn't along side he was nipping at my heels. How I forgot how much fun it was to run with someone else. Splashing through puddles we made our way through the run and home in time for puck drop. Good times!

Distance: 5.22/k

30 Days of Running. DAY 11

Quick run before the game. Bring on the weekend! Day 11 and a quick run but felt good. Ran fast to get home in time for the game. Could have run for longer but it was game day. Not gonna lie I def felt eleven days of running today. Here is todays results.

Distance:3.19/k
Time: 13 mins, 50 secs
Pace:4:20/k

Best song on the run today: The Champ, Ghostface Killah
This guy is a bulldozer with a wrecking ball attached

Love this jam!

30 Days of Running. DAY 10

Full moon run, ocean side (Insert random howling sound here). How can you go wrong with that? What a way to ring in day 10. Yeah boy!! That's right! Ten runs in and still feeling like a champ! I couldn't wait to run today. From the moment I got up I was ready to hit the pavement. Cheesy I know but its the truth. Funny what running has done to me. Kind of silly when I think of it. Still a total shock that I've been running for over a year now. Maybe its time you start?!

Distance:7.60/k
Time:34mins, 56secs
Pace:4:35/k

Best song on the run today: The Sounds, Four songs and a fight
It all happened so fast that night.....

Check them out if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed

30 Days of Running. DAY 9

Day 9

So running seemed like a chore today. Nothing to do with running for 9 days straight but more for the nap I had after coming home from work. Ralph seemed so comfortable on our bed when checking in with him after work I could think of nothing better than to join him. Two hours later the darkness had crept in again and I having trouble crawling out of my warm bed. Quickly I remembered how great I always felt after a run and I was soon up and stretching. Day 9's run consisted of an average run. Nothing too big tonight it was hump day and I wanted to be inside. I never really plan these runs (how far, how long) but I'm finding variation is the key. Nuff said, here is day 9's results.

30 Days of Running. DAY 8

Moving right along, day 8.

This epic running tale is kind of flying by. Maybe its just me? I'm noticing the more days that go by the better I feel. Not just from the running but also from the idea that I'm completing something big. Big in a crazy way! I constantly find myself mulling over the crazy fact that all this running came outta no where. Sure I ran in high school but when I bring that up I'm somehow reminiscent of Al Bundy. Now that was some time ago. Man, I'm getting old. Here's today run results.

Distance:5.22/k
Time:23mins 3secs
Pace:4.24/k

P.S Red Wings won again tonight. Go Wings go!

Monday, November 7, 2011

30 Days of Running. DAY 7

7 days!

I would have never thought I would run for seven days straight. If you asked me a year or so ago about running for 30 days straight I would fell of laughing. Still feeling great and barely noticing that I have run every day for a week now. With a lot on my mind and the darkness upon me I set out for tonights run. I'm finding variation to be the key but go fig right?

Distance:4.62k
Time:20.59
Pace:4mins 32secs/k

30 Days of Running. DAY 6

Quick and dirty. Why does that sound so wrong? Better off with fast and furious. Anywayz, today was a quick run as I want to mix it up to keep things interesting. Go fig with 24 days to go I figure a little variation might help. With the wind flowing through my hair I was out and back before I knew it. Day 6 and loving it!

Distance:3.51k
Time:15mins 35 seconds
Pace:4mins 35secs/k

30 Days of Running. DAY 5

Today's run was short. I could have run longer but decided on an easy one for today. Day 5 so why not? Short but uphill. Running again before the Red Wings game as I just couldn't sit around and wait for the game to start. Game Results, not that you wanted to know. Red Wings 5, Anaheim Ducks 0, yes!!! We snapped our 6 game losing streak and in grand fashion. I truly believe its because Ralph finally got his Wings jersey, well that and the fact we decided to play hockey again. :) Go Wings go!!!

Distance: 4.18k
Time: 19mins 18 secs
Pace:4.36/k

Still feeling great. Only 25 more days.

30 Days of Running. DAY 4

Thinking while running, running while running? I am slowly going crazy, crazy going slowly maybe? Things are afoot. Lots on my mind. Today's run brought a great chance to think about what things were afoot. What a great time to mull over something. A longer than planned run was in order. Not too long, keeping in mind I was running for 30 days straight I knew I couldn't suddenly go the distance of my personal best but I couldn't think of any better way to collect my thoughts. Nothing bad everyone but today's thoughts were focused on change. Not that at the end of the run I really had any of my thoughts figured out but I did have a good idea of direction things were heading. Funny what running does for me. Maybe crazy, slowly maybe?!

Distance: 8k
Time:37mins 14secs
Pace:4:38/k

Day 4 and feeling great!

30 Days of Running. DAY 3

So day 3 and feeling good. Well to be honest I'm using running at the mo as a vent. A vent for my frustration with my Red Wings and their losing streak as of late. Its not a fix but it helps. I can't really tell if I'm chomping at the bit each day to run again or to see the big red machine finally win a game. I ran early so as to watch the game. To be honest i couldn't stand to sit around and wait for the game to start. I got home from my run just in time for the start of the game. Anywayz, the result of said game wasn't good. The boys in red lost again and the losing streak grew to the largest as a fan I have ever seen, 6 games. 6 GAMES!!!!!! I think I'm losing my mind. I was so flustered with another loss from the dynasty I call my hockey team I almost went for a run again.

Day 3

Distance:4.55k
Time:20mins 17secs
Pace: 4:27/k

For some reason this run won't post to nikeplus. Not the first time I've had a problem with uploading runs from the sportband. Do yourself a favor runners and don't buy this product. Constant problems. Regardless I have no doubt I ran it. Wish me luck with posting day 4.

30 Days of Running. DAY 2

I really didn't feel like running today but whenever I feel this way I remember how great I feel after I run and off I go. Really didn't notice that I ran yesterday but surely I'll notice the previous days running once I get into the thick of things. Same route as yesterday but just a little further past the homestead to top off the run at an even 6k. Feeling good. Can't wait to start seeing results.

DAY 2

Distance: 6.02k
Time: 28mins 4sec
Pace: 4:39k

30 Days of Running. DAY 1

So it begins. 30 days of running day 1. I figure that I'm not going set and goal for length of run on any given day. A minimum of 3k thought on any given day is a must. I really just wanna see how I feel and maybe even how my time changes over the 30 days.

DAY 1....this was yesterday
Distance: 5.75k
Time: 25 mins 52 sec
Pace: 4:25/k

This fast time was fueled by the Red Wings losing their 5th in a row. The run helped me shake off the anger.

30 days of running

Its no news that I've been running. I used to run in public and high school so I figured why not start again. It started out as fun and exercise but the became more of a passion. As funny as it sounds I really like running. I thought about it a lot, silly I know. The more and more I thought the more and more I ran. The simple though of a run got me excited. I was becoming run crazy! Next thing I new I ran a 10k and just kept on going. With the help of Nike running I started challenging myself. First it was to run more then it was to run further and so on and so on. I then made the decision that I would run a half marathon. Crazy to me at first but the closer and closer the day of the race got the more I knew I could do it. To train a little more and a little harder I decided to run 100k in a month. In the midst of training for my half marathon I made 100k in a month with ease. I even finished a week early! A week or so before the half marathon I bunged up my ankle. Not too bad I could still run but something wasn't right. I seemed to luck out cause at the time of the injury was my taper off period so I able to rest up a little. The rest period was just what I needed but the ankle still bothered me the day of the race and but still I only finished 5 mins off my desired time. Yeah me! So I've continued to run but with no races in the near future I needed something to work for, something challenge me as well as continue my progress. This is how I came I with the idea of 30 days of running. Sounds easy. A run every day for thirty days, no problem. Hmmm, we'll see. Let the challenge begin. Stay tuned.
