Opening Day

As per the time of year comes special days.   No, not Christmas, Boxing day or even New Years.  I'm talking about opening day.  When hearing these words every snow starved shred heads ears perk up and the wait begins.

My opening day came December 3rd.  Having not been snowboarding in what seemed like forever there was no way I would be missing out on opening day at Mt Washington.  Not even with everybody and anybody (well I wasn't stopping people on the street) I knew not being able to make it could I be stopped.

So came the preparation.  My board needed a waxing and bad.  Having been tucked way out of sight so not to temp me I could not remember the last time I waxed the poor thing.  $12 and a waxed board later I moved on to thoughts of if I was too fat to fit into my snow pants.  Lucky me, I forgot I had another pair just the right size.  I was almost there.  I could almost smell the mountain air.

Opening day came and I was overcome with joy.  So overcome I almost missed the bus.  Yes I took the bus, a ride lasting 3 long, agonizing hours but boy was it worth it.  Run after run after run.  I was in my zone.  Having previously snowboarded some 100+ days a year it was easy to I was at home ripping the mountain up.  The day seemed to fly by and before I knew it I was on the bus back home.

Needless to say I won't let any one of my pals live down missing out but then again I'm sure they'll be with me in ripping up our local mountain again sooner then later.

 See you out there
