The art of staying out of the dog house

Not that I was in the doghouse but its always good to think of ways to stay out of the doghouse. Proactive as opposed to reactive With a mouth as big as mine it's very easy for my foot to end up right in my cakehole.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a way to gain a few brownie points. To be honest I ran into it. Crowded house tickets! I was pretty sure this would turn out to be my Kiwi's dream night out, well at least close to it.

So I went about baiting the trap laying on thick how great it would be to see Neil and the boys (like I know them or something) play right here in our neck of the woods. With a mental note of the concert date we both went on to agree we needed to be there. Hearing the song 'Weather with You' live was high on my bucket list of things to do sooner rather than later,FYI. The day tickets went on sale they sold out fast, like in 5 minutes! I was shocked and awed. Yeah right its Crowded house in a small intimate venue!. My lil Kiwi frowned at the thought we would not be seeing her fellow countrymen. I then sprung my plan into action.

Scalping tickets is big no matter where you are. I was no stranger to this and knew all the right places to look. After a few failed attempts I found a couple pairs of tickets to choose from. The first set turned out to be poor location, way up in the balcony at the back and quite overpriced for such a location. I quickly turned them down. The next pair turned out to be sold by the time I got through the run around with the first set. I was starting to feel up a creek without a paddle. Four days before the show I met a local newspaper editor who had some prime seats (10 rows from the stage right in the middle) and wasn't able make it. After a few emails back and forth on the price the tickets were mine. I then went home and told the Mrs that I couldn't get tickets and that we would not be able to go. Evil aren't I?!

A few days before the show and when my lil Kiwi seemed to be having a not so great day I pounced. I pulled out a lil envelope with a pic of the Finn's and crew and said maybe this would help. At first I think she thought it was only a picture of the group then she opened the envelope to find the much desired tickets.

The night of the show was amazing and they played all my lil Kiwi's fav songs. I sat patiently waiting for my song, scrap that "our" song. Each time Neil was handed an acoustic guitar I tensed up but got no love. Finally during the encore the second last song was 'Weather with you'. I'm pretty sure this made both of our nights.

With that said forget the secret of youth, I've found the secret to staying out of the doghouse. Its easy, keep your mate happy and she'll do the same for you. Kiwi or not I hope this simple tip keeps you far, far, far away from the proverbial doghouse.

Till next time.
