The most beautiful people on the internet: Volume 1

Teen Mom Amber Gary Dancing
Welcome to my first installment of The Most Beautiful People on The Internet which I’m dedicating entirely to all the people that make fools of themselves on the regular across the internet but believe they look totally cool.  This one is obviously making fun of how people dance, well guys in general.  Being a guy myself I know I can't dance, my wife will confirm this but just take a look at this shaved ape.  Body language leads me to believe he's a mere few seconds away from beating away on his chest.  The look on his face gives you the feeling chimp/gorilla noises are sure to follow.  To think this white gorilla absolutely believes he has a chance with this gal.  All the roofies in the world couldn't help this smuck out.  Does this lil female dancing fool even have a clue you exist in the background there hoss??  I think not!  Good luck going home alone.

Until next time :)

A thumb sized $25 pc

The Raspberry Pi (haha) USB computer is tiny, and the man who made it intends to manufacture it so cheaply he says it could be given away to school children.

Created by UK game developer David Braben (Genius?!), the computer is about the size of a typical USB stick and will costs only $25. With a USB port on one side and HDMI port on the other, it can function just like a real PC.

What sorts of components can you fit on such a limited piece of real estate? Surprisingly, there’s enough room for a 700 MHz ARM11 processor, 128 MB of RAM and OpenGL graphics with enough power to display 1080p video. Wowza!!!

The ultra mini PC is versatile, too. In fact, that picture above shows a 12-megapixel camera he’s added for videoconferencing, photo taking and video recording. There’s an SD card slot for storage, and that’s where you install the operating system of your choice such as Ubuntu or other open-source operating systems.

While the Raspberry Pi is not quite fully baked yet, Braben’s working on it. “We hope something will be rolled out in 12 months,” he says.

Watch him talking in this video about his new PC and how he hopes his charitable Raspberry Pi Foundation will spread this low-cost technology far and wide:

Tiered internet for the stupid

My thoughts on what could be an effective method to reduce ignorance, stupidity, and general bitchiness on the internet and computers.

Think drivers license. It all makes more sense if we liken it to that .  With learning drivers we give them and "L" class.  With simple or basic computer and internet users we would give them a similar class.  Well discussing this a colleague he suggested the first phase to be the "D" class.  As users progressed through their computer/internet knowledge level they would be eligible to move into a new class, say "I" or "M".

Reaping the benefits....

Tech support calls would be simplified to finding out a callers tech license number and confirming their details to make sure if said procedure can be completed as per their current license level. With the appropriate license assistance or troubleshooting would commence, if not the caller would receive a warning against such unlicensed acts and further advised of what penalties should come into play should they choose to continue. User's would then be accessed fines for attempts at ill advised procedures such as software installs, OS updates, etc.  Multiple fines lead to license suspension which could result in the revoking of a person's computer use rights.  Stupid people without computers?  Excellent!  Think about standing in a Future Shop line and overhearing "Sorry sir, you cannot purchase a new pc when your computer license has been revoked".  In a nutshell stupid people would need to be computer babysat.

Sooner or later?  Later than sooner?  Hopefully for my own sanity and that of my colleagues we bring this idea to the forefront ASAP!  Would it be so wrong to restrict the computer/internet idiots to a certain degree? I think not!  I would still have hair if this is the case.

Death to the movie rental store

So movie rental stores are biting the dust. Nothing new there. I can't even remember the last time I or any of my friends rented a movie from a bricks and mortar place like this? Whats that age old question? When a tree falls in the woods and no one is around does it make a sound? Plain and simple.  When a local movie store closes now a days do people notice? Cheesy I know but a valid point.

So, long gone are the days of movie rental outlets. For most getting a movie has been reduced down to getting out the laptop and prowling your favorite movie site for something worthwhile. Forget wasting your time and money going out and renting something anymore when you can simply chase down your flic prey a la the information super highway. Ahhhh, a powerful toy and its right at your finger tips. Can you believe we once did this differently?! Look at how far we've come.

It's always sad when a video store closes. Yeah, the video store quickly became outclassed and outgunned, with Netflix and digital copies and more extensive video on demand, not to mention cheap dvds taking the store's place, but some still find it fun to go to a specific place to rent a movie. Wandering through rows and rows of movies, checking out what's new, looking at DVD cases of movies you've never heard of and/or would never watch. That's what made going to a video store fun.

With closure comes opportunity as the next big thing in movie rentals makes its bid for the top. Soon enough just like the dinosaurs they will all become extinct. A victim of their own technology. Its a dying breed ya know! Don't blame me, blame the internet.

If only I figured all this out before I bought into the whole vcr/dvd player thing.
